Jackie Smith

Biography:

Jackie Smith is associate professor of sociology and peace studies at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Her research addresses how global change impacts democratic participation, including how popular movements and groups such as Amnesty International, Greenpeace, and others have affected politics in the United Nations and in global trade agreements.

Her current book project, Changing the World: Social Movements in a Global System, explores how citizens’ groups can enhance global democracy. She has co-edited three books and published numerous articles on transnational social movements.
